Dear FIFA 21, from referees.
The latest instalment of FIFA has been recently released and we at REFSIX HQ wanted to share with you our thoughts on the game specifically from a referees perspective. With the news this year that the PGMOL referees are going to be on it, the thought that Mike Dean will be sending off our pro terrifies us and excites us all at the same time.
However this FIFA shows that referees are starting to get a little bit more attention on the big stage with the addition of real referees. In recent years they have incorporated many aspects of the refereeing world in the game such as Vanishing spray, Female referees and Hawk eye’s Goal decision system.
However we at REFSIX think they could expand on these additions to make the game even more real from both a referee perspective and a laws perspective. Here's our list of things that we think that they can put into the game. Some of them are little but make it more like a match day for everyone.
1. Coin toss - allowing teams to select halves? Helps when teams prefer to shoot in to one half i.e. Liverpool like to shoot towards the Kop in the second half.
2. Better assistant referee signals - as the changing the flags above the head really grinds our gears.
3. GK kits - please FIFA ensure Goalkeeper kits don’t clash with other kits (including the referees!).
4. Assistant referee names - Having assistant referee names appear too in the opening sequences, we all know that they are just as important as the referee, just ask Daren Cann.
5. VARs - having VAR in competitions which have it. Imagine changing the game with a massive call on VAR!
6. A referee on front of the cover - happened with PES years ago. Who would you pick? Oliver? Elfath? Brych?
7. Referee commentators/pundits - like how BT had Howard Webb, Peter Walton and Mark Clattenburg on their show.
8. The one we all want - a Referee mode - like be a pro mode but be a referee. Just like your pro player we all want to referee the Champions League final as well.
These are our suggestions - what would you like to see?
