Samsung ends support for Tizen-based watches.

From 16th December 2023, Samsung will no longer allow developers (like REFSIX) to release app updates to their watch apps for older Tizen-based watches (Galaxy Watch 3 and older). As a result, the existing REFSIX watch app should continue to work on these devices, but will no longer be supported by us. You will continue to receive updates to the REFSIX phone app.

None of these watches have been sold new for several years. We no longer recommend that referees purchase these devices second-hand and instead opt to purchase newer Samsung or other WearOS watches instead. For a full list of watches that work with REFSIX, check out our compatibility list. For recommendations on what watches to buy, we’ve got some ideas in our news article.

This change will impact the following devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch

  • Samsung GEAR S3

  • Samsung GEAR S2

  • Samsung Gear Sport

All Samsung watches from watch4 and newer are unaffected by this change.

Quote from Samsung Seller Portal team

On December 16, 2023, you will no longer be able to register Tizen-based watch apps including revision in Seller Portal. Instead, we ask that you create your new watch apps for Wear OS Powered by Samsung and distribute them from Google Play Store so that they can be used on the latest Galaxy Watches.

For more information on what watches are compatible with REFSIX, have a look at our watch selector page.
